Adjudication report on The Tempest

By

 Prof. Michael Patterson.

  • The Tempest has a complex plot with colourful characters which is a real challenge for any actors to do.
  • This presentation gave us nice sounds, good music and lighting.
  • The cast under the direction of Sue Fortune showed good discipline.
  • They held their freezes extremely well.
  • Concentration was good though there were a lot of ‘wobbly’ lines.
  • Some of the lines were delivered without being thought about.
  • As a whole the cast were splendid and we saw some very talented actors.
  • Stephen Walker as Prospero had a youth added quality and his hand movements were very good.
  • No wonder Miranda [played by Katie Rose Blake] fell for Ferdinand [James Engley] with his looks !
  • Tom Matthews had good physical presence and his voice got stronger as the play went on.
  • The double act of Trinculo [Emma Stansfield] and Stephano [Lily Anna Brown] were amazing, they were very confident and we saw our own Morecombe and Wise act.
  • The most outstanding performance was that of Ariel [Emma Atkinson]. She gave a smashing performance, very graceful with all her movements.
  • There were lovely positioning, by using the steps we saw instant pictures.
  • It was a shame that we did not see more physicality e.g in the storm and at the feast.
  • This was a really good contribution from Two Rivers.

Following the performance the adjudicator awarded Emma Atkinson the accolade of most promising actor.

Here she is being presented her award by Sue Fortune.

Two Rivers School were also awarded best school in the competition.
